MariaWas there ever such thing? I read about it in a book and I was wondering if there was a tiny grain of truth.
PeterWell there certainly was in India.
The 'Assasins' were well known and very much feared. I'm not really positive, but I think it was the British that finally put paid to them.
I don't think there was such an organised group in Europe. Though no doubt each country would have people that could be called on, so to speak.

MerlinYou certainly refer to the famous Order of the Assasin, lead by Hassan Sabbah, called "the old man from the mountain", with their astonishing castles near the Caspian Sea. Alamut was their main castle and they terrorised India and the Near East from the 11th to the 14th century by killing many leaders for political or religious reasons.
You'll find more information about the Assasins and their castles under the following links:

PeterCheers Merlin,
do you know ... there are just far too many subjects to get your head around. Some times I don't know which way I am going with this castle stuff!
Peter
MerlinJust found another interesting article about Sabbah and his Assassins: http://www.iranchamber.com/history/ismailieh/ismailieh.php
Just download the PDF-Document at the bottom of the page and you'll find information in all details!

Has anyone ever heared of anyone that has visited the castle of Alamut? Must be a very spectacular place but very difficult to get there...
